My dad is having our family dog put to sleep tomorrow. She's 15 years old and clearly in a lot of pain, so I know it's time. Honestly, I've been saying "good bye" to her at the end of every Florida visit for the last couple of years because I didn't expect her to make it this long, but it's driving me crazy that I'm not there to say goodbye to her now. I just keep thinking about how this is her last day and I'm not there to pet her and love on her. Sorry for being a major downer. I just keep thinking about it and getting all choked up.

Don't be sorry for a down post. That is terribly sad, and I can see how not being there to say goodbye would make it harder. I'll be thinking of you.

That is very sad:( I'm sorry. RIP old girl. Sounds like you've lived a good life and made lots of people happy. I could cry thinking about when it's time for one of mine to go. They love me no matter how much I've abandoned them for the baby.

It s definitely ok to have a sad post especially when it is a family member. Wanna know a secret? When our goofy black lab passed away a while ago, my mom sent out little memorial cards she had made (he was super important to us.) Whenever I find it and read it, I still cry. This has to be close to 6 years ago when he passed away.

I guess I just didn't expect to feel quite as sad as I do. We got her when I was just about to start my sophomore year in HS, and I left home for college 3 years later then moved out of state from there. So really I only lived with her for 3 years, so I thought I was a little more removed from it. But I'm just a big ol' softie for my dogs! And Sara, I feel bad about abandoning Achilles for the baby, too! I try to give him love whenever I can, but I still feel like I'm neglecting him!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I already dread that day we have to face this and our dog is only 4. They become members of your family. I will be thinking of you and your fam tomorrow.

I can't really read your thread. I might cry. I read the first sentence though, and it breaks my heart. Dogs are amazing creatures. I can't imagine what I'll do if Lucky is no longer with me.
Lots of hugs your way. Go give Ellie lots of kisses and let her know how much you love her.

I'm sorry. I know how awful it is having to put your pet down. He was well loved & lived a long, happy life. 15 years is a long time for a big dog. He knows that he was well loved & grateful to you all for it.

Oh Meghan, I am sorry... 15 years? Sounds like he had a wonderful long life. Saying goodbye to a pet is always bittersweet. It is for the best though and like Pinkwillow said, all dogs go to Heaven!
